Giancarlo Giannini stars as a hapless laborer who is booted out of his job when he votes for the wrong candidate in the local election. After leaving his sexually reticent wife and extended family to look for work in Turin, he falls madly in love with a beautiful young communist played by Mariangela Melato (SWEPT AWAY). Transferred back to his hometown, Giannini begins a complicated and chaotic double life, quickly discovering that balancing love and politics, Mafia and the family is an impossible task.
