SOUL
2020, Walt Disney Pictures, 100 min, USA, Dir: Pete Docter, Kemp Powers

What is it that makes you...YOU? Joe Gardner (voice of Jamie Foxx) is a middle-school band teacher who has a passion for jazz who is offered a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play with one of the greats. But one small misstep takes him from the streets of New York City to The Great Before – a fantastical place where new souls get their personalities, quirks and interests before they go to Earth. Joe teams up with a precocious soul (voice of Tina Fey) who has never understood the appeal of the human experience, hoping that if he can help her, maybe he can make it back to Earth in time for his big gig.

UP
2009, Walt Disney Pictures, 96 min, USA, Dir: Pete Docter

Rather than get shipped off to a retirement home, Carl (voiced by Ed Asner) attaches balloons to his house and takes to the skies. He’d promised his late wife that someday he would follow in the footsteps of their favorite explorer, and so winds up in South America - but with a young stowaway aboard. Together the pair encounters a rare bird, a talking dog and the famed explorer - whose ambitions wind up threatening them all. An Oscar winner for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score, this Pixar hit offers more than enough humor, action and heart to delight audiences young and old.
