KNIGHT OF CUPS
2016, Broad Green Pictures, 118 min, Dir: Terrence Malick

In the Tarot card deck, the knight of cups represents a romantic adventurer guided by his emotions, an apt description of screenwriter Rick (Christian Bale), who searches for love and self in the playgrounds of Los Angeles and Las Vegas. This enigmatic and visually stunning film features a superb ensemble cast including Cate Blanchett, Natalie Portman, Brian Dennehy and Antonio Banderas.

THE REVENANT
2015, 20th Century Fox, 156 min, USA, Dir: Alejandro González Iñárritu

The life of explorer Hugh Glass inspired this visceral adventure set in the 1820s. Golden Globe winner Leonardo DiCaprio is unforgettable as Glass, who is left for dead after being mauled by a bear but survives to track down his betrayer (Tom Hardy). Cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, production designer Jack Fisk and costume designer Jacqueline West have defied the elements to bring some truly amazing imagery to the screen - not since DELIVERANCE has a film so powerfully captured both the beauty and the violence of the American wilderness.

GRAVITY
2013, Warner Bros., 91 min, USA, Dir: Alfonso Cuarón

In this critically acclaimed sci-fi drama, Sandra Bullock stars as Ryan Stone, who on her first mission is stranded in space when her shuttle is destroyed by debris. The collaboration of Cuarón, cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and a team of talented artisans create cinema that will take your breath away even if your oxygen supply is unlimited. “In depicting the fearful, beautiful reality of the space world above our world, GRAVITY reveals the glory of cinema’s future; it thrills on so many levels.” – Richard Corliss, Time
