1995, Disney, 128 min, Dir: Peter Chelsom

When aspiring stand-up Tommy Fawkes (Oliver Platt) bombs in Las Vegas, he heads for Blackpool, England. His father (Jerry Lewis) rose to fame as a performer there, and as Tommy struggles to follow in his footsteps, he gets a crash course in both family history and comedy. An unusual but effective mix of surreal laughs and dark drama, with a wonderful cast including Leslie Caron and Oliver Reed.

1990, Sony Repertory, 115 min, USA, Dir: Joel Schumacher

An all-star cast of med students (Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt) experiment with death, stopping each others' hearts and "flatlining" before being revived. Until, that is, they discover their exercise has unleashed the secrets of their past in a supernaturally terrifying manner.
