CLOUDS OF SILS MARIA
2014, 124 min, Dir: Olivier Assayas

Actress Maria (Juliette Binoche) struggles to return to the stage play that made her famous 20 years earlier, but this time in a different role, and opposite a rising young starlet.

THE ENGLISH PATIENT
1996, Park Circus/Miramax, 162 min, USA, Dir: Anthony Minghella

Ralph Fiennes is badly burned in a WWII plane crash and wakes up in a monastery, where he claims to have no memory of who he is. As nurse Juliette Binoche tends to him, his story emerges in flashbacks, and his passionate affair with Kristin Scott Thomas forms the basis of one of the most beloved romances in movie history. Gabriel Yared’s Oscar-winning score anchors a richly layered, novelistic epic that recalls the best films of David Lean and David O. Selznick.

RED (1994)
TROIS COULEURS: ROUGE
1994, Janus Films, 98 min, France, Poland, Switzerland, Dir: Krzysztof Kieślowski

In the trilogy’s final installment, Swiss model Valentine (played by Irène Jacob, from THE DOUBLE LIFE OF VERONIQUE) meets an embittered former judge (Jean-Louis Trintignant) who spies on his neighbors, and crosses paths with an intriguing young law student (Jean-Pierre Lorit). In a wonderful piece of cosmic stage-managing, Kieślowski brings together the main characters from all the THREE COLORS stories during a storm-tossed ferry ride. In French with English subtitles.
