NEWS OF THE WORLD
2020, Universal, 118 min, USA/China, Dir: Paul Greengrass

The year is 1870. Five years after the end of the Civil War, Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Tom Hanks), a widower and veteran of three wars, now moves from town to town as a non-fiction storyteller sharing the news of presidents and queens, glorious feuds, devastating catastrophes and gripping adventures from the far reaches of the globe.

In the plains of Texas, he crosses paths with Cicada, aka Johanna Leonberger (Helena Zengel, SYSTEM CRASHER), a 10-year-old taken in by the Kiowa tribe six years earlier and raised as one of their own. Johanna, hostile to a world she’s never experienced, is being returned to her biological aunt and uncle against her will after her home was burned by the soldiers who took her.

Kidd reluctantly agrees to deliver the child where the law says she belongs. As they travel hundreds of miles into the unforgiving wilderness, the two will face tremendous challenges of both human and natural forces as they search for a place that either can call home.

SYSTEM CRASHER
SYSTEMSPRENGER
2019, 118 min, Germany, Dir: Nora Fingscheidt

She is small, but dangerous. Wherever Benni Klaass (Helena Zengel) ends up, she is immediately expelled. The wild 9-year-old has already become what child protection services call a “system crasher.” Benni has a single goal - to be back at home with her mom - but Bianca Klaass (Lisa Hagmeister) is scared of her own daughter. Hoping to find a permanent placement for Benni, anger-management trainer Micha (Albrecht Schuch) becomes the girl’s school escort and suddenly there is a seed of hope. Will Micha be able to succeed where all others failed?
