TURQUAZE
2010, Menuet, 96 min, Belgium, Dir: Kadir Balci

Having buried their father in Istanbul, Timur and his two brothers, Ediz and Bora, return to Belgium to resume their lives, while their mother remains in Istanbul. In the wake of their grieving, Ediz takes on a bizarrely paternal role, Bora makes bad decisions with the wrong friends, and Timur tries to fulfill his father’s dream: playing the trumpet in a brass band. Exploring the lives of immigrants who find themselves torn between two lands and cultures (with roots in neither), this messy, moving and joyous romantic drama introduces a trio of men who must redefine family dynamics after enduring a deep loss. In Dutch and Turkish with English subtitles.
