SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT
1977, Universal, 96 min, USA, Dir: Hal Needham

“Smokey” was ’70s trucker slang for the Highway Patrol, a frequent adversary of knights of the road - especially when said knights try to haul Coors beer illegally from Texas to Georgia. But Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason) is no match for “The Bandit” (Burt Reynolds), whose speed and skill behind the wheel is the stuff of local legend. Longtime stunt coordinator Hal Needham was ideally suited to direct this hit action comedy, which costars Sally Field as a runaway bride and country singer Jerry Reed as Reynolds’ partner in crime.

HOOPER
1978, Warner Bros., 99 min, USA, Dir: Hal Needham

Director Hal Needham got his start as a stuntman, and he pays tribute to the profession with this action-packed hit. Top stuntman Burt Reynolds is on the verge of retirement when he finds himself challenged by newcomer Jan-Michael Vincent to attempt the riskiest, biggest stunt of his career - against the better judgment of girlfriend Sally Field. From its opening to its "blooper reel" credits (which were among the first used in film), HOOPER takes viewers on a wildly entertaining ride.

SHARKY’S MACHINE
1981, Warner Bros., 122 min, USA, Dir: Burt Reynolds

This noir-esque adaptation of the William Diehl novel stars Burt Reynolds as Tom Sharky, an Atlanta vice cop who falls in love with a hooker (Rachel Ward) while trying to bring down an underworld kingpin (Vittorio Gassman). “Burt Reynolds establishes himself as yet another movie star who is as valuable behind the camera as he is in front of it. Mr. Reynolds's third and best directorial effort ... is an unexpectedly accomplished cop thriller.” - Janet Maslin, The New York Times.

Screening formats: 35mm (SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT, HOOPER). blu-ray (SHARKY'S MACHINE). | Special Ticket Prices: $15 General, $13 Cinematheque Members. No vouchers.
