CLASSIC MOVIE CLOWNS
Restored Laurel & Hardy Shorts
Co-presented by Jeff Joseph/SabuCat, with special thanks to the UCLA Film and Television Archive

UCLA/SabuCat Restoration! “The Battle of the Century” (1927, 19 min. Dir. Clyde Bruckman) This long-lost legendary short is known to fans as “the greatest pie fight ever filmed.” Hardy insures Laurel and finds out he can make a lot of money if Laurel has an accident. In his attempts to get Stan to slip on a banana peel, Ollie causes a pastry chef to slip instead. Angry, the pastry chef hurls a pie at Hardy and soon the whole block is involved in a battle where 3,000 pies are hurled. Includes a new score by Donald Sosin.
Restored! “Hog Wild” (1930, 19 min. Dir. James Parrott) In this terrific short, Laurel and Hardy struggle mightily to install a radio antenna on the roof of Ollie’s house.
Restored! “Come Clean” (1931, 20 min. Dir. James W. Horne) On their way out for ice cream, Stan and Ollie pull from a river a woman who proves to be nothing but trouble to them.
Restored! “The Chimp” (1932, 25 min. Dir. James Parrott) When the circus where they work goes out of business, Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy are left with a flea circus and a chimp named Ethel - which, as bad luck would have it, is also the name of their landlord’s wife.

Introduction by Jeff Joseph. Join us at 1:00 PM in the lobby, where author Randy Skretvedt will sign his book Laurel and Hardy: The Magic Behind the Movies.
Screening format: DCP. | “Hog Wild” and “The Chimp” photochemically preserved and restored by the UCLA Film and Television Archive.
