UCLA/SabuCat Restoration! “The Battle of the Century” (1927, 19 min. Dir. Clyde Bruckman) This long-lost legendary short is known to fans as “the greatest pie fight ever filmed.” Hardy insures Laurel and finds out he can make a lot of money if Laurel has an accident. In his attempts to get Stan to slip on a banana peel, Ollie causes a pastry chef to slip instead. Angry, the pastry chef hurls a pie at Hardy and soon the whole block is involved in a battle where 3,000 pies are hurled. Includes a new score by Donald Sosin.
Restored! “Hog Wild” (1930, 19 min. Dir. James Parrott) In this terrific short, Laurel and Hardy struggle mightily to install a radio antenna on the roof of Ollie’s house.
Restored! “Come Clean” (1931, 20 min. Dir. James W. Horne) On their way out for ice cream, Stan and Ollie pull from a river a woman who proves to be nothing but trouble to them.
Restored! “The Chimp” (1932, 25 min. Dir. James Parrott) When the circus where they work goes out of business, Mr. Laurel and Mr. Hardy are left with a flea circus and a chimp named Ethel - which, as bad luck would have it, is also the name of their landlord’s wife.
