Tribute To Actress Lupe Ontiveros (September 17, 1942 – July 26, 2012).

Screenwriter-playwright Josefina Lopez will sign copies of Real Women Have Curves And Other Plays at 6:30 PM in the Egyptian lobby.

Discussion following the film with cast and crew. In-person guests will include screenwriter/playwright Josefina López, director Patricia Cardoso, actresses Ingrid Oliu and Soledad St. Hilaire, producer Effie Brown, co-producer Marilyn R. Atlas, and others to be announced.

First-generation Mexican-American teenager Ana (America Ferrera) is fresh out of high school and navigating the difficult decision between a full scholarship to Columbia University and family pressure to stay in East Los Angeles and work with her mother Carmen (Lupe Ontiveros) and sister Estela (Ingrid Oliu) at a downtown sewing factory. Co-starring George Lopez. Patricia Cardoso’s moving feature made a splash at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, winning the Audience and Special Jury Prize awards, with Ferrera later nominated for Best Debut Performance at the Independent Spirit Awards. Josefina López won the 2002 Humanitas Prize for Screenwriting for her adaptation of her play of the same name, along with co-screenwriter George LaVoo.
