JOURNEY TO THE FLAMES: 10 YEARS OF BURNING MAN

Starting at 1:00 PM in the Egyptian courtyard, join us for interactive Burning Man activities and art installations, including a Newbie Orientation for Burning Man novices at 3PM and a playawear fashion show at 6PM! Please dress in your playa finest because everyone is welcome to participate! Grilled cheese sandwiches will be given out to everyone. The film will screen at 7:30PM, followed by a discussion with the filmmakers. Also in attendance for the fashion show, screening, and discussion will be Larry Harvey, Burning Man Founder and Chairman of the Black Rock City LLC executive committee, and Marian Goodall, Director of Business and Communications & Co-Creator of Regional Network.
This event is free to American Cinematheque members, with regular pricing for non-members.

Discussion following the film with filmmakers Doug Jacobson and Steve Binder, Burning Man Founder and Chairman of the Black Rock City LLC executive committee Larry Harvey, and Director of Business and Communications & Co-Creator of Regional Network, Marian Goodall.

A group of friends embark on various voyages to Black Rock City over the course of 8 years. From their initial stop in Reno for last minute supplies to the construction of their theme camp, The Petting Zoo. Director Doug Jacobson and his campmates wise-crack and offer philosophical insight on subjects from civic participation to radical self-expression. In this documentary Jacobson and crew also offer detailed explanations of the Burning Man, it’s community, volunteerism and annual art themes.With breathtaking shots of playa art, costumes, mobile art, flame effects and fire dancing the film includes interviews with Larry Harvey, Harley K. Dubois, Will Roger and Danger Ranger.
