HEPTEMBER MATINEES

New England-born Katharine Hepburn (1907 – 2003) is one of the most revered actresses of all time. With a record-breaking four Oscars for lead performances, she was named the greatest female star of Classic Hollywood Cinema by the AFI in 1999, and her fierce independence and proactive career choices made her a feminist icon before there was such a thing.

Celebrate “Heptember” all month long with Tuesday afternoon matinees featuring the legendary performer. Hepburn was famously branded as box office poison in 1938 around the time romantic comedy classic HOLIDAY was released, but she quickly bounced back with hit THE PHILADELPHIA STORY, which had been written for her as a play (to which she later acquired the screen rights). Both of those films team the actress with Cary Grant; playing a social climber in ALICE ADAMS, the great Kate was paired with Fred MacMurray. But without a doubt the performer's favorite leading man was Spencer Tracy, who co-starred with Hepburn in nine films - one of the best being ADAM'S RIB.
