Double Feature!

Martin Scorsese's GOODFELLAS was based upon the book Wiseguy by Nicholas Pileggi; the screenplay for MY BLUE HEAVEN was written by Pileggi's wife, Nora Ephron. Much of the research for both works was done in the same sessions with New York mobster Henry Hill, whose life both movies are based upon. As a result, MY BLUE HEAVEN plays out as a kind of comedic sequel to GOODFELLAS - though GOODFELLAS was released one month later!

1990, Warner Bros., 146 min, USA, Dir: Martin Scorsese

Irwin Winkler produced this quintessential mob epic, directed by Martin Scorsese and based on Nicholas Pileggi’s Wiseguy. Ray Liotta stars as Henry Hill, a real-life mobster, whose captivating narration rivals that of previous Scorsese antihero Travis Bickle. Joe Pesci won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor as charismatic sociopath Tommy DeVito, and Robert De Niro shines as the brutal Jimmy Conway. Filled with memorable characters, a wealth of atmosphere, beautiful tracking shots by cinematographer Michael Ballhaus and, as always in Scorsese films, an amazing soundtrack. The all-star cast also includes Lorraine Bracco, Paul Sorvino, Frank Vincent and even a young Michael Imperioli ("The Sopranos") in the small but memorable role of Spider.

1990, Warner Bros., 97 min, USA, Dir: Herbert Ross

Uptight federal agent Barney Coopersmith (Rick Moranis) is put in charge of wild man Vinnie Antonelli (Steve Martin) when the gangster is placed in a witness relocation program. Unfortunately for Barney, Vinnie has no intention of leaving his life of crime behind. Nora Ephron's typically witty script plays like a comic sequel to GOODFELLAS and serves as a showcase for two brilliant comedic talents.
