GOODBYE TO LANGUAGE 3D Exclusive Engagement

At last, Jean-Luc Godard’s highly anticipated Cannes Film Festival Jury prize winner hits the big screen in a rare American Cinematheque theatrical run! The protean French director’s latest is a vibrant visual essay as well as a narrative - a married woman’s relationship with a single man (and Godard’s dog, Roxy) is just the jumping-off point. Both beautiful and mischievous, this Godard masterpiece is bold in its disregard for the conventions of 3-D filmmaking, challenging the audience to discover hidden layers of imagery, and making this a unique film that can only be savored in a theater. In French with English subtitles.

"A MASTERPIECE. Having upended the rules of film language in BREATHLESS, Godard does it anew here." - Amy Taubin, Film Comment

"A thrilling cinematic experience. The thickly layered movie offers up generous, easy pleasures with jolts of visual beauty, bursts of humor, swells of song and many shots of a dog, Roxy, but it will provide other satisfactions with repeat viewings." - Manohla Dargis, The New York Times

An adrenaline shot to the brain.” - Scott Foundas, Variety.

Packed with dazzling images, the film makes 3-D feel like something brand-new to the medium.” - Joe McGovern, Entertainment Weekly.

"The most thrilling experience of the 2014 [Cannes Film] Festival. The film is a furiously associative meditation on humanity and history, cinematic and linguistic meaning, the world of nature and the nature of reality. A bravura display of what a master formalist can do with a technology that cinema, now more than ever, equates simply with spectacle." - Dennis Lim, Art Forum

70 min.

3-D Ticket Pricing: $13 General, $11 Students/Seniors, $9 Cinematheque Members. No vouchers accepted.

In addition to giving this extraordinary film a rare weeklong run in 3-D, we’re also revisiting some of the director’s ’60s classics on January 10th at the Egyptian and January 11th at the Aero.
