DREAMLAND
TRAUMLAND
2013, 99 min, Switzerland, Germany, Belgium, Dir: Petra Volpe

On Christmas Eve in Zürich, four stories of duplicity and alienation unfold. Pregnant Lena (Ursina Lardi) learns of her husband Martin’s (Devid Striesow) ongoing infidelities as she prepares the family’s Christmas celebration. Social worker Judith (Bettina Stucky) meets a police officer in a hotel room to act out fantasies she’d never propose to her boyfriend, Jonas (Stefan Kurt). Recently divorced Rolf (André Jung) yearns to reconnect with his teenage daughter. Widow Maria (Marisa Peredes) believes the answer to her loneliness is a relationship with a widower who still longs for his deceased wife. Connecting all four narratives is Mia (Luna Mijovic), a desperate teenage prostitute with a young son in Bulgaria. In German with English subtitles.

PARENTS
ELTERN
2013, 103 min, Germany, Dir: Robert Thalheim

There are no easy answers in this bittersweet dramatic comedy about the balance between career, marriage and family. Konrad (Charly Hübner), his wife Christine (Christiane Paul) and their two young daughters are a model Berlin family. Former theater director Konrad now manages the household while family breadwinner Christine works at a hospital. But when Isabel, their nanny from Argentina, arrives with her own set of problems, the entire dynamic of the once idyllic family begins to shift, and Konrad and Christine must reexamine their priorities to their children, to themselves and to each other. In German with English subtitles.
