Program begins with the short “We All Love the Seashore” (2016, Spain, 18 min. Dir. Keina Espiñeira) A group of men are waiting at the fringes of a coastal woodland for the journey to Europe, in limbo between time and place. A film is shot there with the men playing themselves. Myths from the colonial past collide with dreams of a better future. Winner of Prix Rotterdam at IFFR 2016.

Discussion after DEAD SLOW AHEAD with director Mauro Herce, followed by a cocktail reception in the Egyptian courtyard.
2015, 74 min, Dir: Mauro Herce

A freighter crosses the ocean; the hypnotic rhythm of its pace reveals the continuous movement of the machinery devouring its workers: the old sailors’ gestures disappearing under the mechanical and impersonal pulse of 21st century neo-capitalism. Perhaps it is a boat adrift, or maybe just the last example of an endangered species with engines still running, unstoppable. Awarded with a Special Jury Prize at the Locarno Film Festival 2015 and Best Film at DocsLisboa 2015, among other international recognitions.
