In post-Soviet Belarus, unemployed raver Velya (Alina Nasibullina) dreams of emigrating to the U.S. After forging proof of employment to win a much-coveted visa, her dream appears within reach … but the American consulate wants to call the bogus number she’d provided. Velya's only solution is to travel to a small factory town and endure a week in the cramped apartment on the other end of the phone line, whose family matriarch refuses to lie to the authorities but will allow Velya to do so. But the scheme soon upends both the family's and the town’s order, with potentially disastrous consequences for all.
