SERIOUSLY FUNNY: AN IN PERSON TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL KEATON
Double Feature! Michael Keaton In Person!
BEETLEJUICE / MULTIPLICITY
Discussion between films with Michael Keaton.
BEETLEJUICE
1988, Warner Bros., 92 min, USA, Dir: Tim Burton

Yuppies Jeffrey Jones and Catherine O’Hara move into a new home only to find that it’s haunted by a ghost couple (Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis) with no intention of letting the new inhabitants stay. Their solution: the obnoxious miniature exorcist of the title, a hilarious comic creation played with gusto by Michael Keaton. In this, the first of Keaton’s collaborations with Tim Burton, the actor and director let their imaginations and enthusiasm run rampant to create a horror-comedy classic.

MULTIPLICITY
1996, Sony Repertory, 117 min, USA, Dir: Harold Ramis

After being approached by a geneticist, construction worker Doug Kinney (Michael Keaton) seems to find a solution to his chaotically busy life - cloning! Keaton's usual hilarity only, well, multiplies as his person doubles and triples on screen. From director Harold Ramis, also known for brilliant comedy GROUNDHOG DAY, MULTIPLICITY deals with a different kind of terrifically funny repetition, and Keaton's performance is masterful in this underrated gem.
