“The Last Truck: Closing of a GM Plant” (2009, HBO, 40 min. Dirs. Julia Reichert, Steven Bognar). In 2008 the General Motors assembly plant in Moraine, Ohio, shut its doors two days before Christmas. As a result, 2,500 workers and 200 management staff were left without jobs, with the closure triggering the loss of numerous related jobs and businesses. Directors Julia Reichert and Steven Bognar view the final months of the plant through the workers' eyes as they consider their next steps. While the film focuses on Moraine, the plant's closing reflects profound changes in the American manufacturing landscape that may bring the nation's blue-collar middle class to an end.
