THE BLOOD OF HEROES
1989, 90 min, Dir: David Webb Peoples

The first directorial effort from veteran screenwriter David Webb Peoples (BLADE RUNNER) is one of the most adrenaline fueled, fast paced action films of all time. THE BLOOD OF HEROES is set in a post-apocalyptic future, in which a hyper-violent version of football—played with dog skulls instead of pigskin—dominates popular culture. Rutger Hauer stars as a disgraced former player, who embarks on a daring comeback with his teammates played by Joan Chen (who amazingly supplied many of her own stunts), Vincent D'Onofrio and Delroy Lindo. Thirty years after its original release, the film has become a cult classic, as well as the inspiration for the real sport “Jugger,” which is now played across the world. “No one carries the dog boy!”
