SLAM
SLAM: TUTTO PER UNA RAGAZZA
2016, Netflix, 100 min, Italy, Dir: Andrea Molaioli

Based on the successful novel by Nick Hornby, SLAM is filled with the often exciting, often frightening, twists and turns of growing up. Sixteen-year-old Samuele (Ludovico Tersigni) spends his days skateboarding with his friends, doing jumps and tricks, and taking the odd spill; he also nurtures a completely imaginary friendship with his hero, Tony Hawk, the best skater of all time. He would love to attend a university, to travel, and perhaps move to California and become a professional skater. But more than anything, Samuele would love to be the first in his family not to fall into the trap of having a baby at 16, which happened to both his mother and his grandmother.

THE WAIT
L’ATTESA
2015, 100 min, Italy/France, Dir: Piero Messina

In her villa in Sicily, Anna (Juliette Binoche) is mourning her son Giuseppe when his fiancée (Lou de Laâge) arrives to spend Easter weekend with him. Unable to break the news to the young woman, Anna allows her to wait for Giuseppe, getting to know this link to her son a little better before the truth inevitably emerges. Messina earned a Golden Lion nomination at the Venice Film Festival for this stylish feature debut. “Benefiting enormously from its evocative Sicilian setting, this widescreen experience makes bewitching use of space, time and sound, creating an almost meditative atmosphere.” - Peter Debruge, Variety. In Italian and French with English subtitles.

WELCOME MR. PRESIDENT
BENVENUTO PRESIDENTE!
2013, Indigo Film, 100 min, Italy, Dir: Riccardo Milani

The comedic possibilities of Italian politics come to the fore in this affable look at simple Giuseppe Garibaldi (Claudio Bisio), who lives in the countryside, fishing for trout. When a mistake makes him president of Italy, he brings common sense and honesty to a capitol rife with cynicism. In Italian with English subtitles.
