UNCLE BOONMEE WHO CAN RECALL HIS PAST LIVES
LOONG BOONMEE RALEUK CHAT
2010, Strand Releasing, 114 min, Dir: Apichatpong Weerasethakul

As its title suggests, the first Palme d'Or winner from Thailand straddles the real world and the supernatural one. As he lies dying of kidney failure, Uncle Boonmee (Thanapat Saisaymar) is visited by the spirits of his dead wife and lost son. This enigmatic film was shot in several differing styles (including costume drama, documentary and the Thai TV series of Weerasethakul’s youth), mirroring its themes of death, memory and transformation. In Thai and French with English subtitles.
