NECRONOMICON: BOOK OF THE DEAD
1993, 96 min, Dir: Christophe Gans, Shûsuke Kaneko, Brian Yuzna

This splatter-rific horror anthology is split into three segments, each based on a work by famed writer H.P. Lovecraft, played here by Jeffrey Combs (RE-ANIMATOR). In “The Drowned,” attempts to use the Necronomicon to revive deceased family members instead produce tentacled monsters. In “The Cold,” a woman’s next-door neighbor is a scientist intent on artificially extending life. In “Whispers,” a pair of Philly police officers tracks a suspect to a warehouse filled with alien creatures. Featuring special effects and makeup by the legendary Tom Savini.

GODZILLA, MOTHRA & KING GHIDORAH: GIANT MONSTERS ALL-OUT ATTACK
2001, Sony Repertory, 105 min, Dir: Shusuke Kaneko

Already acclaimed by fans as the most exciting Godzilla film since the genre’s 1960s heyday, "GMK" features a terrific, redesigned Big G (he’s leaner, meaner and packs a nasty bite), bent on destroying Japan as vengeance for the restless souls of WWII victims. Standing in his way are the "Guardian Deities" - Mothra, King Ghidorah and Baragon. In Japanese with English subtitles.
