MARY GOES ROUND
2017, 84 min, Canada, Dir: Molly McGlynn

In writer-director Molly McGlynn’s feature debut, substance abuse counsellor Mary (Aya Cash) is suspended from her job after a DUI arrest, so she returns to her hometown of Niagara Falls. There she finds her long-estranged father (John Ralston) dying of cancer - and hopeful that Mary will finally get to know her half-sister (Sara Waisglass). “MARY GOES ROUND handles its story beats with a canny mixture of rueful humor, warmth and realism. The script by McGlynn (whose own immediate-family history is roughly akin to Mary’s) is understated and astute, with characters that never feel like ‘types’ despite our having seen their ilk onscreen before.” - Dennis Harvey, Variety.
