Dana Andrews gives one of his most compelling performances as an angry and haunted New York cop whose violent streak leads to the killing of an informer. His attempts to cover up the crime only dig the hole deeper, as his lies make a suspect of an innocent man - the father of the woman he loves! Ben Hecht’s terrific script, based on the novel Night Cry by Victor Trivas, provides the bedrock for one of Preminger’s best film noirs, shot by the great Joseph LaShelle (LAURA).
This highly underrated ensemble drama is one of the most perceptive looks at life in the suburbs ever made. Three couples struggle with such things as alcoholism, debt and racial bias as new neighbors move in to their Sunrise Hills subdivision; a fine cast includes Joanne Woodward, Cameron Mitchell, Tony Randall (playing way against type), Pat Hingle and Barbara Rush.

On the way from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, big-shot lounge singer Dino (Dean Martin) becomes stranded in Climax, Nevada. When local aspiring musicians (Ray Walston and Cliff Osmond) catch word of this, they sabotage Dino’s car and attempt to provide ingratiating entertainment in the form of local bar floozy Polly the Pistol (Kim Novak).
