SYNDROMES AND A CENTURY
SANG SATTAWAT
2006, Strand Releasing, 105 min, Dir: Apichatpong Weerasethakul

Commissioned by Vienna’s New Crowned Hope Festival to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Mozart’s birth, Apichatpong Weerasethakul responded with a film about the miraculous beauty of everyday life. Composed of two parts, the film follows a female doctor working in a rural Thai hospital and a male doctor working in a Bangkok hospital (characters inspired by the director’s parents). “It sent me out into the streets in a state of euphoria I couldn't properly explain.” – David Ansen, Newsweek. In Thai with English subtitles.
