FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION
2006, Warner Bros., 86 min, USA, Dir: Christopher Guest

Christopher Guest turns the camera on Hollywood for a hilarious look at the making of an independent movie and its cast as they become victims of the dreaded awards buzz. Film-within-a-film HOME FOR PURIM began as an intimate period drama about a Jewish family's turbulent reunion on the occasion of the dying matriarch's favorite holiday. But when Internet-generated rumors suggest cast members Catherine O'Hara, Harry Shearer and Parker Posey may have a shot at awards, the production takes a turn as everyone from reporters (Fred Willard) to agents (Eugene Levy) to studio chiefs (Ricky Gervais) smell the sudden potential for a sleeper hit.

THIS IS SPINAL TAP
1984, Rialto Pictures, 82 min, USA, Dir: Rob Reiner

Director Rob Reiner’s funniest film, this side-splitting rock mockumentary chronicles the less-than-triumphant return to America of legendary British heavy-metal group Spinal Tap. As the band members who don’t spontaneously combust or die in gardening accidents, Christopher Guest, Harry Shearer and Michael McKean deliver spot-on performances; the many terrific cameos include Patrick Macnee as Sir Denis Eton-Hogg and Rob Reiner himself as documentary filmmaker Marty DiBergi.
